  • It has around 68 homes in 7 states of India.

  • They have sheltered 4000+ women, 4000+ children and over 1000 men.

Their homes include -

  • 'Matruchaya' to support destitute, battered, and old aged women.

  • 'Kishordham' is a home aimed at brightening the childhoods of children from struggling families.

  • 'Pitruchaya' is a home geared towards supporting destitute, challenged, battered, and old aged men.

About the Founder of Maher

Maher’s initiative began with sister Lucy, the founder, who was inclined to care for and change the lives of those who have experienced abuse. She was inspired after a pregnant woman came to her when she was in her previous job as a social worker and the woman said she was scared her husband was going to kill her. Sister Lucy did not have the power to take the woman in so she promised to help her the following day. Unfortunately that woman was set on fire by her husband that night. From that moment on sister Lucy was determined to make a difference.

How Voices Reclaimed will aid Maher

  1. Raising funds for the Ranchi center in Jharkhand

    • "Geetanjali" home

      • Supports around 30 girls who come from underprivileged backgrounds.

      • They only receive a proper education once they come to Maher.

    • "Jeevanjali" home

      • Seeks to aid women from areas in Jharkhand that have been affected by extreme poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, superstition, and other social issues.

      • Supports women who face mental health issues due to such circumstances.

  2. Raising funds for 2 shelters of the "Gomia" Center

    • "Jeevodaya" is a home for underprivileged children who are no longer with their parents.

    • “Sarvodaya” is a home for women who struggle with mental health issues.

They hope to receive such funds so that they can account for food, clothes, school supplies, toiletries, bedding, and other necessities.

It is Maher’s utmost priority to create a place where everyone can feel loved and accepted and Voices Reclaimed is working to bring that to fruition.
